The Thursday 13th of June,2024 is a bitter one, particularly to the
businessmen and women in the Jimeta Modern Market of Adamawa State as the businessmen
of the State wake up to go for their businesses only to find all the modern
market gates closed.
Also, there are police, armies and civil defence at all the
entrances of the market for this action creates unconfortabilities in the side
of both sellers and the buyers as they swim around without having access to
what they come to buy or sell. The same complaint goes with the sellers that
they are denied food for that day afterall, it is only when they sell that they
can buy food.
Efforts are made to find out the reason for the market
closure but some marketers link the reason with politics while others take it
personal to wage ill-comment against the government.
But in the side of the government, a source reveals that
there was an awareness long ago on the needs of all attachment-sellers to leave
the market premises for decongestions and allow those with shops to continue
their buying and selling but the attachees refused to adhere to the government
order. This is done to spur Governor Fintiri's agenda of urban renewal projects
that are made to beautify the state capital of Adamawa State.
Also, some marketers complain that they are not shown any
place for them to relocate to. Therefore, there is no place to lodge their
wherewithals and sell them. They pleadingly call on the governor to find an
alternative place for them to continue their businesses.
However, some marketers plead with the governor for the
extension of closing date so that it eases the existing tention within the
state.
Besides, no response is head again from the side of the
state government.
